The official language of Tokyo and Japan is Japanese. The written language is called Kanji, and is related to the Chinese characters. Each Kanji has at least two readings or ways to say the word. The first way is based on the old Chinese way and the other is the Japanese way.
The language used two phonetic alphabets, Hiragana and Katakana. They also have a third one, called Romaji, which uses Roman letters. Government
Tokyo metropolis is made up of 23 wards, 26 cities, seven towns, and eight villages. The incorporated cities all have mayors. The legislative authority belongs to the Tokyo Metropolitan Assembly, numbering 127 members that are elected for 4 year terms by the public. The prefectural governor is the principal elected official, presiding over several administrative commissions and their commissioners.

Enduring patience is a respected trait in Japanese culture. A direct “no” is often never used, they use sentencing that indicate “no”. For example, " Let me think about it", which the Japanese know that is a "no". A “yes” is given directly. They feel very sensitive to their family and want to bring honor to them, and want honor brought to them as well. Honor is part of the code of warrior from the Shinto religion and those traits are the base of there customs and how they judge people.

The main religion practiced is a combination of Buddhism and Shinto, or one or the other, but mainly the combination. The rest is made up of 1% of Christianity, Islam, and Hindi, there is hardy any Judaism. Shinto has no founder recognized but is based on ancient mythology. It strengths the relationship between the believer with nature and gods.
All of the Japanese emperors are to be decedents from the sun goddess Amaterasu. Shinto is important to the social values, code of warrior, which s very important to the social classes. Weddings are Shinto and funerals are Buddhist. It is a big part of their life and will always will be.

Tokyo is the host to the latest trends of popular culture and they host many renown global artist. Tokyo has many historic Japanese culture showings that pass down the cultural to the new generations. There are a lot of theaters spread out through Tokyo. There are Performances of Kabuiki and Gagaku and Bunrak.
Tokyo has the largest art museums in all of Japan called the Tokyo national Museum. The National Diet Library is the biggest library in Tokyo, there are a lot of old Tokyo books and old Japan books in the library.
There are a lot of folk tales redone into Japan culture to past down to the new generations. Calligraphy is well respected and Haiku is the main form of poetry. Some of the Folktales include The Two Frogs, Mirror of Matsuyama, Visu the Woodsman and the Old Priest, Little Peachling, The Stonecutter.
